Hello there! I'm Tina Tsai, the creator and passionate voice behind Oh Snap! Let's Eat!, a platform I launched in 2012. My goal is to show you that creating classic Asian dishes at home can be both simple and incredibly delicious.
My culinary journey began in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, where I was born and spent my early childhood surrounded by vibrant flavors and beloved Taiwanese dishes. But my understanding of Asian food goes far beyond Taiwan.
Growing up in a multicultural family deeply influenced my palate. My maternal grandfather hailed from Cantonese culinary traditions, my maternal grandmother brought the bold flavors of Sichuan, and my paternal side is rooted in Taiwanese cooking. Furthermore, due to Taiwan's historical connection with Japan, Japanese cuisine has also become an integral part of our family's food culture. This diverse heritage has given me a broad appreciation for the nuances and regional variations within Asian cuisine.

Staying Connected to My Roots
My connection to my roots remained strong even after moving to Atlanta, Georgia at the age of four, thanks to being fortunate enough to have annual summer visits to Taiwan to visit family. These trips weren't just vacations though; they were deep dives into local culinary landscapes, where I gained firsthand knowledge of regional specialties and the crucial role of fresh, high-quality ingredients - insights I bring directly to every recipe I share. (OMG the fresh seafood of Taiwan = LOVE.)

Growing Up in Duluth, Georgia
Growing up and now living in Duluth, a wonderfully diverse area, exposed me to even more Asian cuisines - Thai, Korean, Vietnamese, Japanese, and more. Having all these incredible food cultures around me expanded my palate and inspired my passion for sharing approachable Asian recipes with home cooks everywhere.
This love for Atlanta's Asian food scene also inspired me to create Asian Food Atlanta, now a dedicated section within Oh Snap! Let's Eat!, where I highlight local restaurants, festivals, markets, and community food events across Metro Atlanta.
My Work With Atlanta's Asian Food Community
My involvement in Atlanta's Asian food scene goes beyond dining and writing - I also love working directly with local businesses, creators, and community organizations. Over the years, I've collaborated with Georgia Foodies to highlight local restaurants, served as the event host for the Atlanta Chinatown Market led by local artist Andrew Blooms, and led a dumpling-wrapping workshop for the Emory APIDA Alumni Network during their 2nd Annual Buford Highway Eats: Dumpling Edition food tour. Connecting with restaurants, vendors, and community leaders allows me to share the stories behind the food, and it's one of my favorite parts of celebrating Asian cuisine here in Metro Atlanta.
This firsthand exposure to both Taiwanese roots and Atlanta's multicultural food scene deeply influences the recipes I create.

Family, Home Cooking, and Inspiration
Growing up in the States, I witnessed firsthand the magic of home cooking through my mother, a talented professional artist who, despite her demanding career as a single parent, consistently created incredibly wholesome and delicious meals for us. Her resourceful approach taught me a fundamental truth:
Delicious food doesn't need to be complicated.
Watching her effortlessly prepare home-cooked Asian dishes instilled in me a lifelong love for cooking. Our family meals - often a combination of a meat dish, vegetables, seafood, rice, and a comforting soup - instilled in me a deep appreciation for healthy, satisfying home cooking.

My Cooking Philosophy
My passion lies in making the authentic flavors of Taiwanese, Chinese, and Asian cuisine accessible and enjoyable for home cooks - especially those far from their motherland or limited in ingredient access. Inspired by my mother's practical everyday cooking, I focus on developing recipes that honor traditional roots while offering adaptable solutions for modern kitchens.
My goal is to empower you to confidently recreate the comforting and vibrant Asian flavors in your own home.
Interestingly, my formal education actually took a seemingly different path. I graduated from the Georgia Institute of Technology (Class of 2009 - Go Jackets!) with a degree in Industrial and Systems Engineering. However, this analytical background has actually equipped me with a methodical and detail-oriented approach to recipe development.
Education & Career
Interestingly, my formal education took a different path - I graduated from the Georgia Institute of Technology (Go Jackets!) with a degree in Industrial & Systems Engineering. That analytical background now helps me take a methodical, detail-oriented approach to recipe development.
For over a decade, I worked in software consulting and Information Technology, primarily within the food and beverage industry. I also served as IT Chief of Staff, led program management efforts, and was AAPI Chair, where I organized cultural food events and celebrated diverse culinary traditions within the company.

These experiences reinforced my belief in the power of food to connect people. Ultimately, my heart led me back to sharing the joy of Asian home cooking. Oh Snap! Let's Eat! has been my labor of love for over a decade, growing into a trusted resource for anyone seeking approachable, authentic Asian recipes.
