Pier-2 Art Center in Kaohsiung, Taiwan

Published: May 25, 2012 · Modified: Jun 2, 2026 by Tina Tsai · This post may contain affiliate links · 5 Comments

Pier-2 Art Center, also known as 駁二藝術特區, is one of my favorite creative areas in Kaohsiung. Located in Yancheng District near Kaohsiung Harbor and the Love River, this former warehouse district has been transformed into a colorful arts and culture area filled with murals, sculptures, galleries, shops, cafes, and photo-worthy outdoor installations.

When I first visited years ago, the area had such a cool, industrial-meets-artsy feel - old warehouses, modern art, and lots of younger locals and visitors wandering around. It still has that creative energy today, but Pier-2 has grown into one of Kaohsiung's most popular cultural destinations.

A Little History

Pier-2 was originally a warehouse area by the harbor. The warehouses were built for industrial use, but as Kaohsiung changed over time, the area was eventually transformed into an arts and cultural district. Today, the old warehouse spaces are used for exhibitions, shops, performance spaces, cultural events, and creative businesses.

That mix of old harbor history and modern art is what makes Pier-2 so fun to explore. You'll see large outdoor sculptures, murals, pop-up exhibitions, and lots of little details tucked between the buildings.

What to Do at Pier-2 Art Center

Pier-2 is a great place to wander without a strict plan. Some things to look for include:

  • Outdoor art installations and murals
  • Contemporary art exhibitions
  • Creative shops and design stores
  • Cafes, bakeries, and restaurants
  • Harbor views and nearby walking paths
  • Great photo spots throughout the district

It's also close to other Kaohsiung attractions, so it's easy to pair with places like Love River, Yancheng District, Hamasen, or the Kaohsiung waterfront.

About Pasadena Pier-2 Warehouse

When I originally wrote this post, I ate at Pasadena C3 Warehouse Restaurant, also known as 帕莎蒂娜駁二倉庫餐廳. It was located inside one of the old warehouse spaces and served Western-style food like pizza, salad, quiche, and baked goods.

I especially remember the seafood pizza - it had shrimp, squid, cheese, tomatoes, onions, and lots of toppings. It was a fun example of how Western food can show up a little differently in Taiwan.

However, this restaurant appears to no longer be open, so I'm keeping this section here as a nostalgic look back at what Pier-2 was like when I visited.

They also have a cute little bar in the corner, and in the other room is the Pasadena bakery where you can pick up some baked goods if you are a fan of those things:

Is Pier-2 Art Center Worth Visiting?

Yes! If you're visiting Kaohsiung, Pier-2 Art Center is definitely worth adding to your itinerary. It's casual, walkable, colorful, and different from the night markets, temples, and traditional food spots people often associate with Taiwan.

It's especially fun if you enjoy art, design, street photography, cafes, or just wandering around an interesting neighborhood with a lot of personality.

Tips for Visiting

Wear comfortable shoes because Pier-2 is best explored on foot. If you're visiting during the day, Kaohsiung can get very hot, so bring water, sunscreen, and maybe plan a cafe break.

I'd also recommend checking the official Pier-2 Art Center website before visiting, since exhibitions, events, and shop hours can change.

Final Thoughts

Pier-2 Art Center is one of those places that shows a different side of Kaohsiung. It's creative, a little quirky, and full of character. Even though the restaurant I originally visited is no longer there, the area itself is still a great stop if you're exploring southern Taiwan.

It was! Unfortunately, I'm slightly allergic to shrimp so I could only eat two of them 🙁 But the two I had were very tasty 🙂

I gladly appreciated the photos, especially the seafood pizza, it looks great, and full of delicious toppings, about the shrimp salad, I tasted it personally on one of our world food trip, with my co-chefs, and what can I say it is indeed great and full of flavors.
