If you're looking for a reliable Japanese restaurant in Duluth, Georgia, Haru Ichiban is one of those places that locals keep coming back to. It's casual, welcoming, and known for a menu that covers all the Japanese comfort food favorites - from sushi and sashimi to ramen, bento boxes, and classic hot dishes.

Honestly, it's hard to talk about this place because there are so many tasty things to order here. It's our go-to Japanese restaurant, whether we're dining in or ordering at home.

Whether you're grabbing lunch, meeting friends for dinner, or craving a cozy bowl of noodles, Haru Ichiban is always an easy, satisfying choice.

Things We Love at Haru Ichiban

Here are some of the things we love to order here!

Combination Lunch & Dinner

One of the best values here is the combination meals - they're perfect if you want to try a little bit of everything.

Combination Lunch
The lunch combo is a great deal and comes with:

  • Ginger salad
  • Miso soup
  • Rice

You can mix and match from a wide selection, including:

  • Spicy tuna roll
  • Chicken karaage
  • Grilled salmon
  • Beef teriyaki
  • Grilled mackerel
  • Sushi or sashimi
  • Tempura
  • and MORE.

It's filling, balanced, and ideal for a midday meal.

Combination Dinner
The dinner combo is bigger - like really generous portions. It doesn't automatically come with miso soup, but honestly, the amount of food makes it more than enough. You can always add soup if you want, but most people won't leave hungry.

Dinner combos let you choose from many of the same options as lunch, just with larger portions and more flexibility.

Full Entrées (Not Just Combos)

You don't have to order a combination meal to get your favorites. Many popular dishes are also available as full entrée plates, which are perfect if you already know what you're craving or want more of one main dish.

Popular entrée options include:

  • Sushi and sashimi plates
  • Beef teriyaki
  • Grilled salmon
  • Grilled mackerel
  • Chicken karaage
  • Tempura (shrimp or vegetable)

Favorite Lunch Pick: Salmon Sushi Combo

If you're a salmon lover, the salmon sushi combo on the lunch menu at Haru Ichiban is a must.

This combo includes:

  • Salmon nigiri
  • Salmon avocado roll
  • Plus the standard lunch combo sides: ginger salad, miso soup, and rice

It's simple, fresh, and incredibly satisfying - especially if you want sushi without committing to a huge dinner spread. The mix of nigiri and rolls gives you variety, while still keeping things light and balanced.

Sushi & Rolls (A Must-Order Here)

With such a large menu, it's easy to forget just how strong the sushi lineup is at Haru Ichiban - but it really deserves its own spotlight.

There's a wide selection of rolls, plus sushi and sashimi if you prefer to keep things classic. Whether you're ordering for the table or building a full sushi dinner, there's plenty to choose from.

Some of our faves

Two rolls we love to order:

  • Oishi Roll - A great balance of flavors and textures, and an easy crowd-pleaser (my favorite of all times)
  • Georgia Bulldog Roll - A local favorite with bold flavors that definitely stands out on the menu (my fiancé likes this one a lot - the eel sauce makes it more sweet I think)

Cozy Comfort Pick: Nabeyaki Udon

This is the ultimate Japanese comfort food: thick, chewy udon noodles served in a hot, savory broth with vegetables, protein, and an egg, all brought out bubbling hot.

I ordered this when it was freezing outside, and it was exactly what I needed - warming, hearty, and so satisfying. It's the kind of dish you slowly work through, spoonful by spoonful, and somehow feel better by the time you're done.

If You Love Appetizers…

If you see takoyaki on the menu, get it.

Crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and topped with sauce and bonito flakes, it's one of my favorite Japanese appetizers and Haru Ichiban does it really well. Perfect for sharing (or not 😉).

Takeout & Delivery

You don't have to dine in to enjoy Haru Ichiban - many of their dishes are also available for takeout and delivery through DoorDash. We did this a lot during the pandemic!

Some of the photos in this post are from DoorDash orders, and the food travels really well. Entrées like teriyaki, grilled fish, karaage, tempura, and even sushi hold up nicely, making this a great option for a cozy night at home.

Final Thoughts

If you're looking for a Japanese restaurant you can rely on - whether it's a quick lunch, a dinner with friends, or something warm and comforting on a freezing day - Haru Ichiban is one of those places that always hits the spot. With such a wide menu and consistently good food, it's easy to see why this is our go-to Japanese restaurant in Duluth!
