If you're looking for a Sichuan restaurant in Atlanta, The Sparrow in Midtown delivers bold flavors, creative cocktail and baijiu flights, and shareable dishes beyond just hot pot. We stopped by to try their drinks, classic Sichuan dishes, and new skewer offerings and everything was built for sharing, spice lovers included.

Here's a quick look at what we ordered and the overall vibe:

@ohsnapletseat

Bold Sichuan flavors in Midtown Atlanta! 🔥🔥 We started with cocktail flights, then went all out on the hot pots which were like these stews on an open flame 🔥 Both were so tasty, beef rib hot pot spicy and numbing… the tangy fish was just wow! And the new skewers? Woooooow I can't stop saying wow 😆 Definitely check out @The sparrow 麻将 if you are around the area and craving bold flavors!!! ➡️ Read more on the blog! The Space and Atmosphere

The space itself is SO cute, with lanterns and art by Andrew Blooms! It works well for date nights or small groups, especially if you're ordering multiple dishes to try together.

Drinks We Tried

San Wei He Bi (三味合璧)
A cocktail flight featuring three bold, well-balanced drinks. Each one leans rich and layered, making this a fun way to start the meal if you enjoy cocktails with depth.

Hua Guo San Xun (花果三巡)
A baijiu tasting flight highlighting floral and fruit-forward flavors, including lychee, prickly pear, and dragonfruit. Aromatic, lightly sweet, and surprisingly approachable - even if you're newer to baijiu.

Food Highlights

Spicy Beef Jerky
Crispy, savory, and numbing in the best way. This was a great appetizer to snack on while waiting for the hot pots to arrive.

Spicy Beef Rib Hot Pot
Deep, rich, and packed with heat. The beef ribs were tender, and the broth had that classic Sichuan intensity that keeps you going back for more.

Tangy Fish Hot Pot
Bright and sour with a clean, spicy finish. This one balanced heat with acidity really well and was one of our favorite dishes of the night.

Lotus Root Stuffed with Glutinous Rice
Lightly sweet and comforting, this was a nice way to end the meal and balance out all the spice. Here's a picture but I ate it before I took it haha:

New Skewer Menu

The Sparrow recently added skewers to the menu, making it even better for group dining. We tried a mix, including:

  • Chicken and peppers
  • Beef and pineapple
  • Enoki mushrooms
  • Cabbage skewers
  • Chicken feet

The skewers are easy to share and pair well with both the drinks and hot pots.

Final Thoughts

Between the cocktail and baijiu flights, bold Sichuan flavors, and shareable dishes, The Sparrow offers a well-rounded dining experience in Midtown. If you're in the area and craving real heat with creative drinks to match, it's definitely worth a visit!
