Chicken with White BBQ Sauce (keto, gf) – It’s not summer without some barbecue! This is not like your typical tomato based, sweet BBQ sauce. It’s tangy, creamy and light. It was created in northern Alabama in the 1920’s and traditionally served over smoked chicken. It works as the perfect marinade and sauce for grilling.
It’s easy enough to make when you don’t have much time for dinner, and you can serve the sauce over almost any summer vegetable. If it’s too tangy for you, add a teaspoon of sweetener to round out the sauce.

Ingredients
- 2 lb chicken, breast or thighs
- 1 cup mayonnaise (you can make your own paleo mayo too! Here’s the recipe.)
- 1/3 cup apple cider vinegar
- 2 tsp prepared horseradish
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 tsp Dijon mustard
- ½ tsp garlic powder
- ½ tsp pepper
- ½ tsp salt
Directions
Combine all the ingredients, except chicken thighs. Stir thoroughly or use an immersion blender if your horseradish is not smooth.
Pour half of the sauce over the chicken and let marinade while you heat up the grill. Save the other half of the sauce for drizzling over the chicken once it’s done.
Grill the chicken for 7-8 minutes on each side, or until done.
Let it rest for 5 minutes and serve with your favorite salad. You could also throw some vegetables on the grill with the chicken and serve with the sauce on top.

That white sauce sounds so amazing and like a nice twist from the traditional tomato based I usually do! Definitely making for our next grill out.
