Mac and Cheese (Homemade)

Mac and Cheese is such a tasty comfort food – creamy cheese all over pasta? Makes a delicious side! Yes, you can buy a box of mac and cheese and just have that but I promise making it from scratch with yummy cheese, butter and milk? SO much more delicious! Here’s how to make Mac and Cheese Homemade!

Easiest Homemade Mac and Cheese Ever!

This is the simplest way to make mac and cheese at home! You only need 5 ingredients – elbow macaroni, butter, cheddar, mozzarella, and milk! Technically you can make it 4 if you only want to use cheddar too!

This recipe is easily made gluten free too if you purchase some gluten free elbow macaroni, as I do not add any extra flour! It really is simple!

What kind of cheese to use for Mac and Cheese?

There are a lot of different types of cheese you can use for Mac and Cheese. In this recipe, we will use cheddar, and a little mozzarella.

However, you can try any of these other cheeses:

  • Cheddar
  • Gruyere
  • Muenster
  • Parmesan
  • Fontina
  • Havarti

If you bought a block you’ll want to make sure to grate/shred it for easy melting and mixing in the mac and cheese. I like to keep it simple and use already shredded cheese usually.

How do you make Mac and Cheese?

First gather your ingredients:

  • 8 ounces elbow macaroni (uncooked; about 2 cups)
