Last week I had the opportunity to teach a hands-on dumpling-making workshop at Agnes Scott College as part of their AANHPI Heritage Month programming - and it was such a fun experience!

We had around 30 participants join us to learn how to make homemade dumplings from scratch. I started the workshop with a short introduction to Chinese dumplings, including their cultural significance and why they are such an important food in many family gatherings and celebrations.
One of my favorite things about dumplings is that they are more than just a recipe - they're an experience. Dumplings are often made together with family and friends, and there's something really special about sitting around a table wrapping dumplings together.
For the hands-on portion of the class, everyone learned how to fold vegetarian napa cabbage and tofu dumplings. We talked through the basic dumpling "formula," including how to balance fillings, remove excess moisture from vegetables, and properly seal dumplings so they hold together while cooking.

Even if someone had never wrapped a dumpling before, by the end of the workshop everyone was making their own!
Of course, we also had dumplings to eat 😋 I brought a variety of dumplings for everyone to sample, including homemade chicken dumplings, vegetarian dumplings, and pork dumplings.

A huge thank you to Agnes Scott College and everyone who attended the workshop. It was wonderful seeing everyone learn, laugh, and make dumplings together.
