Shiitake Mushrooms Napa Cabbage Stir Fry

Shiitake Mushrooms Napa Cabbage Stir Fry

Shiitake Mushrooms Napa Cabbage Stir Fry is a tasty veggie side dish! Love the flavor and texture of these two veggies together – and it’s enhanced by dried shrimp and smashed garlic.

Napa Cabbage

Napa Cabbage is one type of cabbage, and is also known as Chinese cabbage. It is oblong shaped, and it’s leaves are more tender than your normal green cabbage.

It is more closer to lettuce in texture, which one time confused the cashier that was trying to ring my Napa Cabbage up. He was convinced it was Lettuce, but I had to explain that it was actually Napa Cabbage!

Fun fact: Napa cabbage is the type of veggie most commonly made in to Kimchi (a fermented dish originating from Korea). If you’re looking for a napa cabbage recipe – check out my Stir Fry Napa Cabbage with Dried Shrimp recipe!

Shiitake Mushrooms

One of my favorite mushrooms to use in Asian recipes! Shiitake originates from China and Japan, and is super flavorful. They’re more dense, similar to portobello mushrooms, and have an earthy, almost smokey flavor compared to the other mushrooms.

I commonly use dried shiitake mushrooms in soups to add a delicious flavor to the broth, but you can also use fresh shiitake mushrooms for stir frying or any other dishes.

Where to buy Shiitake Mushrooms?

There are two types of shiitake mushrooms I cook with – fresh and dried. Fresh is great for stir fries like this dish, while I love using the dried shiitake mushrooms for soups and Taiwanese Rice Noodles Stir Fry,You can buy both types of shiitake mushrooms at your local Asian supermarket. For dried shiitake mushrooms you can also find them on Amazon!

How to prepare Shiitake Mushroom?

The first thing is removing the stems. You can easily do this by popping them off or just using a knife and slicing them off. Technically you can do this after washing it but I find it easier to do before.

The second thing I do is washing the shiitake mushrooms. Rinse the shiitake mushrooms under cold water to remove dirt. Since it will absorb the water, you can either shake them or even squeeze them out and pat them dry with a paper towel.

Lastly, slice the shiitake mushrooms in to strips for this recipe.
