Stir Fry Napa Cabbage with Dried Shrimp is an easy veggie side dish that is also tasty and healthy! It only takes about 10 minutes to make, which makes it a great veggie side dish to go with any entrée.
Napa Cabbage
Napa Cabbage is one type of cabbage, and is also known as Chinese cabbage. It is oblong shaped, and it’s leaves are more tender than your normal green cabbage. It is more closer to lettuce in texture, which one time confused the cashier that was trying to ring my Napa Cabbage up. He was convinced it was Lettuce, but I had to explain that it was actually Napa Cabbage!
Fun fact: Napa cabbage is the type of veggie most commonly made in to Kimchi (a fermented dish originating from Korea)
Dried Shrimp
Dried shrimp (aka 蝦米) are sun dried shrimps that have been preserved and used in many Asian cuisines. It adds a umami flavor to the dish. We always have a jar (or 2) of dried shrimp in the house, as there are different types too!
You can buy them from any Asian supermarkets. You can also find some on amazon, and if all else fails, you could really skip them and just cook Napa with the smashed garlic to bring additional delicousness to this napa cabbage recipe.

How to cook Stir Fry Napa Cabbage with Dried Shrimp
First, gather the ingredients:
- 1/2 head of Napa Cabbage
- 1 tablespoon Dried Shrimp
- 2 tablespoon cooking oil of choice
- 2 cloves garlic, smashed (Optional)
- Sea salt, as desired
Instructions
Cut Napa Cabbage in to about 1 inch x 2 inch slices. Usually this in tails slicing once lengthwise, and then slicing in to 1 inch long width wise. Separate the whiter thicker sections of the leaves from the softer leafy sections. Also, I like to make the white pieces a little smaller, as they do take a little longer to cook.
Cook cooking oil on medium high heat, and then add garlic and dried shrimp. Let it cook for about a minute, you’ll smell the delicious aroma.
Add the thicker white pieces of napa cabbage and stir fry for about 2 minutes. If it becomes a little too dry, you can add a splash of water.
Add the remaining napa cabbage, and stir fry until napa cabbage is softened. Tip: If your stovetop’s heat isn’t very high – you can cover with lid for a couple of minutes, and then remove. This will help steam the veggies and soften it faster.
Season with salt to taste. Remove from heat and serve!

I do not usually because... lazy haha... but you can, my mom did sometimes just for a few minutes. It softens it and some people say it releases flavor, but I actually feel like personally it kind of looses flavors so I just let it cook in the oil a a min or two prior to adding the napa cabbage.
